FAQ

Even from the very first baby tooth, a dental check-up is advisable. An early dental visit not only supports the early detection of potential oral health issues but also helps gradually accustom the child to regular dental appointments. This helps prevent dental anxiety, and if treatment becomes necessary later on, visits to the dentist will be much less stressful.

An early dental visit during toddler age is especially important for monitoring tooth development and providing guidance on proper children’s oral care. The earlier children become familiar with dental visits, the better they can benefit from healthy teeth in the long term.

Yes, at our dental practice in Zumikon, we offer comprehensive dental treatments for children. We place great importance on providing every treatment in a relaxed, child-friendly, and trusting environment to make visits to the dentist as pleasant as possible for the little ones. We do not use general anesthesia. However, should it be required for medical reasons, we can recommend a suitable colleague from our network.

Our goal is to help children become accustomed early on to healthy oral care and regular dental check-ups, in order to prevent dental anxiety and promote long-term healthy dental development.

Gingival recessions (also known as gum recession) are a common but treatable condition that can, over time, endanger the health of the periodontal structures. If you notice that your gums are receding or that the root surface is becoming exposed, you should consult a periodontist at an early stage. A periodontist can accurately diagnose the causes of the recession and take targeted measures to stop its progression and maintain your long-term oral health.

Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial to prevent tooth loss and the development of further periodontal diseases such as periodontitis. A periodontist offers specialized procedures to stabilize the soft and hard tissues, addressing both aesthetic and functional concerns.

A root coverage procedure is a surgical technique designed to stop gingival recession (also known as gum recession) and to cover the exposed root surface again. This treatment helps protect sensitive teeth, improve the aesthetic appearance, and stabilize the periodontal structures.

To treat gingival recessions, I use the particularly gentle and well-established “tunnel technique.” This method has proven to be effective and safe over many years and offers the advantage of being scar-free. The tunnel technique is performed by specialized periodontists to achieve the best possible outcome—both aesthetically and functionally.

With our expertise in periodontology, we ensure the long-term preservation of your oral health by applying precise, individually tailored treatment methods.

A tooth has completely broken – Can it be saved?
How to save the tooth: In the case of a suddenly broken tooth, acting quickly is crucial to preserve it whenever possible. The sooner you see a dentist after the incident, the higher the chances of saving the tooth. Dr. Betthäuser, an expert in tooth preservation and dental restorations, can in most cases reconstruct even completely broken teeth, provided that the tooth root is intact.

  1. Tooth rescue: If a tooth has broken off, place it as quickly as possible in a tooth rescue box (often available in pharmacies, swimming pools, or schools). If no rescue box is available, you can place the tooth in a small container with saliva or alternatively in long-life milk.

  2. Urgent dental visit: As soon as a tooth breaks, it should be examined by a dentist promptly. The faster you act, the better the chances of saving the tooth.

  3. Tooth reconstruction: If part of the tooth or at least the tooth root is still intact, modern tooth reconstruction techniques—such as fillings, a special crown, localized orthodontics, or a root canal treatment—can help restore the tooth both functionally and aesthetically. Even if the tooth has been broken for some time, it is worth seeking a second opinion from a specialized dentist before having the tooth root removed.

  4. Contact us in case of dental emergencies:
If you have a broken tooth, feel free to contact us via WhatsApp or call us to receive an appointment as quickly as possible. We will help you promptly find the right solution for your dental emergency.

Yes, we offer a telephone consultation, providing you with quick and straightforward support for any dental questions or concerns you may have. Our telephone consultation is a convenient way to receive initial information or gain a first personal impression without needing to schedule an in-person appointment right away. This option is especially helpful for patients with dental anxiety, as it allows them to better visualize what their first visit will be like, helping to reduce fear and create a sense of security.

However, based on experience, only shorter calls are practical, as complex issues require an in-person examination. The telephone consultation is billed according to the dental service tariff of the Swiss Dental Association (SSO), which covers dental advisory services.

How it works:

You can contact us via WhatsApp or email to schedule an appointment for the telephone consultation. Dr. Betthäuser will then be available to carefully answer your questions and discuss possible next steps.

If an in-person examination is necessary, we will be happy to arrange an appointment for you as soon as possible.

We look forward to meeting you.

We look forward to welcoming you soon. Schedule your first appointment easily online, via WhatsApp, or give us a call so we can find a convenient time for you.
